At AirGarage, we’re a remote-first team, but that doesn’t mean we miss out on the value of meeting in person. Last week, we gathered in the beautiful beach town of Encinitas, just north of San Diego, for our latest remote week. These weeks are a chance to connect face-to-face, align on big-picture goals, and share a few laughs.
On the work side, we held product brainstorming sessions with input from our sales and operations teams to ensure our solutions continue driving real results for our partners. During an all-hands meeting, we reflected on recent wins, shared company updates, and discussed our vision for the future. We also got hands-on with Snowflake, our new data tool, in workshops designed to sharpen our skills and improve how we use data to drive decisions. And lastly, our book club kicked off (we're reading Paved Paradise: How Parking Explains the World by Henry Grabar).
During the week, we hit State Beach for an intense game of Capture the Flag—equal parts strategy and sand-sprinting. Some team members made the most of Encinitas’ scenic coastline by going on morning runs to the beach, while others enjoyed leisurely walks to explore the town and soak up the coastal vibes. Balancing work with some outdoor time helps us stay energized and connected as a team.
The week ended with lightning talks, our offsite tradition, where team members are asked to share a 5-minute presentation on one of their unique hobbies or interests. At this offsite, we learned how to line dance, the art of lock picking, and even the secrets to dominating at Tetris. It continues to be a fun way to showcase the diverse passions and personalities that fuel our team.
Re: the impact of our offsites - we had several new team members join us over the last few months. Although all new team members spend their first week at the San Francisco HQ, many team members don't meet one another until an offsite. The difference before and after an offsite are striking. These in-person moments allow us to really get to know each other, spark fresh ideas, and strengthen our bonds in ways that video calls just can’t replicate.
Coming out of the week, we returned to our respective homes more connected and motivated than ever. It’s these shared experiences that help us maintain our culture and momentum, even while working from different corners of the world.
If you’re looking to join a company where you can make an impact, grow alongside talented teammates, and occasionally swap your desk chair for a beach chair, we’re hiring! Check out our open roles—we’d love to hear from you. 🌊
